Less Exposure To Contagious Diseases
More Individual Attention Can Be Paid To Students In A Homeschool

Some More Specific Observations About Homeschooling

Concern For Child's Safety:

There is a much lower chance of exposure to bullies.
Hopefully, no one at home is trying to give or sell illegal drugs.
Reduces the chances of contact with predators.

Control What Is Being Taught:

You may wish to modify a curriculum based on religious, moral, or personal beliefs.
There are basic requirements for education, mandated by the government, that your child must meet - you have little control over this.

Contagious Diseases:

This is both a blessing and a curse.  If you are not exposed to diseases in childhood, they may be more serious as an adult.

Miscellaneous Thoughts:

I think both you and you children have to have the right personalities for this to be successful.  Teachers in schools have a built-in authority image which I believe in many cases to be stronger that a parent's authority image.  Also, some teachers seem too have a natural talent for generating interest in an otherwise boring subject. Most of them have had training in the art of teaching.

If you are good at creating interest, you can use your creativity and much greater freedom to your advantage.  For example, you can go on field trips to stores, banks, the woods, a farm, a zoo, etc. to re-enforce a subject.

Children in a school are partially kept under control by a sort of herd mentality.  Your child sees others participating in the class, raising their hands, answering questions and so forth.  This may be more difficult at home.

Kids may also miss the opportunity to build the kind of friendships they can in school.

Public school is basically free, home schooling requires you to purchase course materials.
